The Chinese Contemporary Intangible Culture Heritage Exhibition was unveiled in Essex County, UK, on Aug 1. More than 50 top-level artworks, across eight categories, are being showcased at exhibition, which includes Zhengze embroidery (zengze xiu) artworks from Danyang in Jiangsu.

The exhibited Zhengze embroidery artworks include a set of six pieces titled Children of the Sea, which are the latest works created by arts and crafts master Lyu Cun. His works vividly describe the beautiful sceneries at Semporna, a small town with a fishing port in Malaysia.

As the third-generation Zhengze embroidery inheritor and grandson of well-known painter Lyu Fengzi, Lyu Cun has dedicated himself to Zhengze embroidery’s inheritance and creation for years.

Zhengze embroidery is a kind of artistic skill, with the integration of both Chinese and Western artistic ideas and methods. The disorderly needled embroidery skill, which has been adopted for industrial production for decades, was also derived from Zhengze embroidery skill.
