The rail-laying work for the last section of the newly-built Lianyungang-Yancheng main railway line has been completed.
The 234-kilometer railway line from Ganyu North Station in Lianyungang city to Yancheng North Station is a double-line electrified railroad. The 25.61 billion yuan ($3.77 billion) line with a designed speed of 200 kilometers per hour was jointly funded by China Railway Corporation and Jiangsu Province. The passenger and cargo railway with its construction starting from December 2013 is a project in China’s medium and long-term railway network construction plan, which is an important section of China’s coastal main railway line.
The north end of the line will connect a railroad under construction from Qingdao in Shandong province to Lianyungang, both of which will provide strong support for China’s Belt and Road initiatives, the development of Jiangsu’s coastal areas and the strategy for the rise of northern Jiangsu areas.
