Two craftsmen from Suzhou city, Jiangsu province will enter for the 44th World Skills Competition that will take place in United Arab Emirate in October.
Cai Yezhao, a baker in Suzhou, is known for his ability to make braided bread, a type of bread that has been divided into long, thin ropes and then braided before baking. One of the most common types of braided bread is three-strand braided bread, in which dough is divided into three even portions which are rolled out into tubes. The three tubes are joined at one end, braided, and then pinched together at the other end.
Cai said the more strands used, the more complicated the final appearance of the bread, and the more challenging for the baker.
Lyu Haoran is another craftsman to enter the World Skills Competition. He is known for his ability to pull sugar for the making of sugar cakes.
Both craftsmen are now practicing their skills for at least eight hours a day in a bid to showcase their skills on the world stage.
