All the proof of a fruit is in the eating. This is true of a fruit competition held Thursday morning at Zhangjiagang city, Jiangsu province.
The fruit tasting event was organized by Nanjing Agricultural University which has assisted the fruit cultivation in Zhangjiagang.
More than 60 kinds of fine fruit varieties from the locality showed up for the tasting event.
They include 22 kinds of pears, 30 kinds of grapes and 11 kinds of juicy peaches.
Experts from the provincial agricultural department and Nanjing Agricultural University judged the quality of the fruits by observing the appearance and tasting the sweetness of the fruits.
The pear from the Wanjiale farming cooperative, the grape from the Qicai Mingzhu specialized cooperative and the juicy peach from Fenghuang Technological Company were honored with the first prize in their respective categories.
1333 hectares of fruits are grown in Zhangjiagang with peach, pear and grape accounting for 80% of the total.
