East China’s Jiangsu province set a new high in its export of farm produce in the first half of this year, according to a provincial working conference on export-oriented development of the agricultural sector. The imports and exports of farm produce during the six-month period totaled 8.18 billion USD, up 12% year on year. The export of farm produce added up to 1.821 billion USD, up 8.8% from a year ago and 5.4 percentage points higher than the national average. In the meantime, the province approved 5 new overseas investment projects in the first six months of this year with the contracted amount totaling 100 million USD. Jiangsu will give prominence to the development of horticulture, aquaculture, specialty cereals and oils and other competitive farm produce that boasts uniqueness of Jiangsu characteristics and international competitiveness to boost the cohesive development of the farm produce clusters and propel agricultural growth.
