East China’s Jiangsu province has issued the country's first ecological civilization education promotion measure by clearly stipulating that ecological civilization education is the responsibility of the whole society. The measure will take effect in September 1st.
According to the measure, ecological civilization education refers to enhancing the awareness of ecological civilization in the whole society and cultivating ecological and environmental protection skills and behaviors by carrying out education on resources, environment and national conditions, popular science education on ecological civilization, publicizing knowledge of ecological environmental protection and legal knowledge, and inheriting excellent traditional ecological culture.
Consisting of six chapters and 40 articles, the "Measures" has innovatively proposed institutional measures that are forward-looking and leading.
For example, the "Measures" stipulate the government's responsibilities for ecological civilization education, and propose that local people's governments at or above the county level should strengthen their leadership over ecological civilization education, and incorporate ecological civilization education into national economic and social development plans and special plans related to the ecological environment, making it necessary for all government departments must strengthen the education of ecological civilization in their own departments.
School ecological civilization education must run through all stages of teaching activities from kindergartens, primary and secondary schools to colleges and universities.
In terms of social and ecological civilization education, Jiangsu will encourage the promotion of green and low-carbon production and lifestyles through village rules and regulations, and support organizations and individuals to participate in voluntary services for ecological civilization education in accordance with the law.
Jiangsu will also build more than one free and open ecological civilization education practice base in each county, county-level city or district of prefecture-level city.
