The consumer price index, the main gauge of inflation, dropped to 2.8% in May though the price of pork is still the dominant factor, the provincial squad of the national bureau of statistics said on Wednesday.
The province’s CPI rose 2.8% year on year, moderating from the 3.4% growth in April.
On a monthly basis, the CPI went down 0.6 percentage points.
The price of food, tobacco and alcohol, which account for one-third of weighting in China’s CPI, went up 9.8% year on year in May.
The prices of pork and freshwater fish went up by 79.9% and 21.7% year on year.
Fruit and egg prices fell 17.5% and 16.8% year on year.
From a month-on-month perspective, the CPI also continued to decline in May. With the orderly resumption of work and production, the province saw continuously improved market supply and demand.
