The four provincial regions in the Yangtze River Delta will step up their efforts for the joint prevention and control of pollution in the coming years, according to a meeting held Saturday in Huzhou city, Zhejiang province. The meeting was presided over by Li Qiang, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee.
Top leaders from Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui attended the ninth meeting of the Collaboration Group for Regional Air Pollution Control in the Yangtze River Delta and the sixth meeting of the Collaboration Group for Regional Water Pollution Control in the Yangtze River Delta.
Che Jun, Secretary of Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee, delivered a speech. Huang Runqiu, Minister of Ecology and Environment and Deputy Leader of the Collaboration Group, addressed the meeting.
The top leaders discussed the further implementation of the Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization and the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, the planning for the joint efforts to tackle air and water pollution in the delta region through regional collaborative mechanisms and the construction of a demonstration zone for the integrated green and ecological development in the Yangtze River Delta.
Li Qiang said after unremitting efforts in all aspects in recent years, the Yangtze River Delta has made significant progress in the treatment of ecological environment.
Noting that the Yangtze River Delta is a region with high resource development intensity and ecological overload operation, Li Qiang said that the ecological environment in the delta has greater vulnerability, as is evidenced by the unstable regional ecological environment governance, hence the imbalances in some areas.
Li Qiang said the Yangtze River Delta is the cradle to the Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, making it all the more important for the four provincial regions in the delta to enhance political stance, maintain strategic resolve, deepen the understanding of the regularity of the human and nature as a life community, safeguard the natural security boundary and bottom line, promote a pattern of harmonious coexistence between man and nature, and effectively protect the green homeland for mankind.
Li Qiang called for a higher starting point to promote the cooperation of pollution prevention and control in the Yangtze River Delta to a new level, strengthen the sharing of information on various sources of pollution and ecological environment supervision, strengthen cross-regional and multi-sector joint law enforcement, promote collaborative legislation on ecological environmental protection, and accelerate the formation of a joint emergency response mechanism for early warning of environmental risks.
Che Jun said that Zhejiang will deepen cross-regional eco-environmental cooperation, strengthen pollution control in the Yangtze River Delta, maintain the lifeline of sustainable development, and make greater contributions to the construction of a green and beautiful Yangtze River Delta and beautiful China.
Huang Runqiu called for strengthening the regular epidemic prevention and control, maintain strategic resolve in ecological and environmental protection, highlight targeted, scientific and legalized pollution control, advance the ecological and environment governance, and ensure that the phased targets and tasks of pollution prevention and control are completed as scheduled.
Wu Zhenglong said that since last year, Jiangsu has implemented the Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization so that the province has continued to improve the quality of the atmosphere and water environment.
Jiangsu will strive to optimize the industrial structure, enhance pollution control, strengthen law enforcement supervision, promote pollution prevention and control, make joint efforts for pollution prevention and control in the Yangtze River Delta region, and contribute to the construction of a green and beautiful Yangtze River Delta, he said.
Leaders from some ministries and commission of the state council also addressed the meeting.
A cooperative agreement was signed by Huzhou city of Zhejiang and Wuxi city of Jiangsu on the prevention and control of blue-green algae in the Taihu Lake.
