
East China’s Jiangsu province has strengthened judicial protection of environmental resources in the Yangtze River Basin, according to a report released by the Provincial Procuratorate on Wednesday.
In recent years, the procuratorial organs at all levels in Jiangsu have continuously increased judicial protection of the environmental resources in the Yangtze River Basin by giving full play to the integration of criminal, civil and administrative procuratorial mechanisms.
From January 2019 to May 2020, the procuratorial organs across the province approved the investigation and arrest of 417 crime cases accused of damaging environmental resources in the Yangtze River Basin and 1667 prosecutions were filed.

The procuratorial organs at all levels in the province filed 2424 public interest litigation cases in violation of environmental resources, and claimed more than 500 million yuan in environmental damage compensation.
The procuratorial organs across the province has promoted the reclamation of 4095.2 acres of cultivated land and forest land, and supervise the restoration of 247.7 acres of contaminated water sources by issuing pre-litigation recommendations to administrative agencies.
