After more than 4 years of construction, the Wufeng Mountain Yangtze River Bridge, China's first highway and railway suspension bridge, was joined on Thursday.
Wufeng Mountain Yangtze River Bridge is a key control project of the Lianyungang-Zhenjiang Railway.
With a main span of 1092 meters, the upper level is a two-way eight-lane expressway with a design speed of 100 kilometers per hour, and the lower level is a four-line high-speed railway with a design speed of 250 kilometers per hour.
The Wufengshan Yangtze River Bridge is not only the first highway and railway suspension bridge in China, but also the world's fastest highway and railway suspension bridge with the fastest speed, largest operating load and largest span.
A series of new structures, new materials, and new technologies are adopted in the bridge construction. Dozens of patents have been obtained, of which two main cables each have a diameter of 1.3 meters and the tension of a single main cable is as high as 90,000 tons.
Upon the completion of the Wufengshan Yangtze River Bridge, the rail travel from Lianyungang to Zhenjiang will be reduced to 1 hour and a half and the commute time from Lianyungang to Nanjing will be slashed from more than 7 hours to 2 hours.
The Wufeng Mountain Bridge will play an important role in improving the railway network in Jiangsu, advancing the integrated development of the province, and promoting the implementation of national strategies such as the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the regional integration of the Yangtze River Delta.
