The Yangzhou-Taizhou International Airport has launched a self-service entry-exit inspection system to speed up passenger clearance.

The e-gates allow passengers to complete the immigration process by scanning their electronic entry permit cards. Under current rules they can be used only by Chinese natives including those from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan and foreigners holding permanent residence permits. The self-service entry inspection also applies to foreigners holding electronic passports and residence permits valid for six months or longer so long as they make registration in advance.

Based on biometric identification technologies, this next-generation system can be manually operated by passengers. First-time users must register their passport and enter their biometric fingerprints and facial image into the immigration computer system when entering China by air. This process can be completed at the immigration inspection station at the airport on arrival.
