The National Health Commission and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently issued the Third Batch of Catalogue of Generic Drugs Encouraged for Production that includes 39 varieties in 12 therapeutic drugs such as anti-tumor drugs and cardiovascular system drugs, filling multiple clinical drug gaps in China.

Generic drugs, an important component of the drug supply guarantee system, are drugs that have the same active ingredients, dosage forms, administration routes, and therapeutic effects as original drugs. Other countries and pharmaceutical factories can produce generic drugs when patented drugs expire.

The third batch of catalogs includes 39 varieties, involving 75 product specifications and 13 dosage forms, covering 12 therapeutic drugs such as anti-tumor drugs and immunomodulators, anti-infective drugs, neurological drugs, radiation diagnostic agents, and cardiovascular system drugs.

The National Health Commission, in conjunction with relevant departments, has released two batches of the Catalogue of Generic Drugs Encouraged for Production, which has effectively encouraged and guided the research and marketing of the drugs listed in the Catalogue.

At the same time, the government encourages generic drugs listed in the catalog to be prioritized for inclusion in the national medical insurance catalog according to procedures.

Up to now, 12 varieties in the first two batches of the catalogs have entered the national medical insurance directory through negotiation, including drugs for rare diseases, a variety of drugs for treating major diseases such as thalassemia and breast cancer, which has reduced the cost of drug use for patients and improved the availability of clinical drugs.
