East China’s Jiangsu province is making headway in the improvement of ecological resources and railway surroundings. Let’s take a close look.
A bay of clear water, rippling with blue waves with flocks of waterfowl frolicking past. The beautiful environment of the Xiake Bay in Xuxiake Town of Jiangyin city has turned out to be a habitat for waterfowls.
“You see, there are a lot of waterfowl here because the environment is much better than before,” said a resident of Jiangyin.
Jiangyin became a pilot county for water system connectivity and water beauty in rural areas under the Ministry of Water Resources in June last year. Since then, Xuxiake Town has expanded the Xiake Bay to 2 square kilometers by launching fast-paced and high-speed water management measures to withdraw more than 1000 mu of small and scattered fish and crab breeding ponds.
The Xiake Bay has been turned into a water surface of 2878 mu with waterfront platforms and public facilities around the lake, making it a getaway for nearby residents to relax and exercise.
“In the next step, we will accelerate the construction of the lakeside road in the bay area, including setting up major landscape cultural ornaments on both sides of the lakeside road, as well as landscape nodes for science popularization and publicity to ensure that the ‘water culture’ and ‘Xiake culture’ of Jiangyin is integrated,” said Gu Chunyu, Director of Water Conservancy Station in Xuxiake Town, Jiangyin City.
The Runzhou District in Zhenjiang has carried out comprehensive environmental improvement along the railway line, aiming to create a green scenic belt with farmland and forests and community theme parks along the railway line so as to improve cultural and entertainment facilities.
“We enjoy coming here for fitness and entertainment as well as taking our children out to bask in the sun. The government has done a great job, and everyone is quite happy,” said a resident of Zhenjiang.
