China has initially formed a three-dimensional observation capability for greenhouse gases with integrated sky and land, China Meteorological Administration said recently.
Since the 1980s, China has successively built an atmospheric background observation station network consisting of one global atmospheric background station and six regional atmospheric background stations.
Since 2016, China has successively launched five satellites with global atmospheric carbon dioxide monitoring capabilities, and recently launched the next generation of global carbon monitoring scientific experimental satellite projects for carbon inventory in a bid to further strengthen its global greenhouse gas monitoring capabilities.
The China Meteorological Administration will further enhance its observation capabilities to bring into shape a backbone network of all factor greenhouse gas background observations covering 16 key climate zones in China and radiating to major global latitudes. In 2025 it also plans to launch the Fengyun-3 meteorological satellite 08 satellite to be equipped with higher performance global greenhouse gas monitoring instruments.
