Farmers across Jiangsu province are getting busy with the harvest of autumn crops such as sorghum, chrysanthemum, and snakegourd fruit. Let’s take a close look.
In Jiling Village, Shuangdian Town, Donghai County, the plump grains of sorghum bloomed all over the fields. Taking advantage of the good weather, the farmers have put into operation machines to speed up the harvest.
The village administration coordinated the agricultural technology department and arranged technical personnel to guide farmers in planting sorghum in the village.
“The land in our village is not suitable for growing rice, but sorghum is just right. In the next step, the village will vigorously promote sorghum planting, provide all service technologies for farmers, and promote their income growth and prosperity,” said Wang Chenli, Secretary of the Party Branch of Jiling Village, Shuangdian Town, Donghai County.
Farmers in Xuzhou have started to harvest chrysanthemums. Villagers in the Taoyuan Community of Suining County were busy picking chrysanthemums.
Yang Zhenchen has contracted over 100 mu of land this year, and the professional chrysanthemum drying base built by the community has saved him a lot of costs.
“We processed at the processing factory in the community, paid processing fees, and also saved on shipping costs,” said Yang Zhenchen, Chrysanthemum Planter in Taoyuan Community, Suining County.
The drying base in the community can earn an average annual profit of around 300000 yuan. During busy farming hours, the drying base can also be rented to farmers for drying food, further increasing the collective income of the community.
In Huai'an and Yancheng, farmers have been busy picking snakegourd fruit.
