East China’s Jiangsu province reported 44 billion yuan of investment in railway construction from January to August this year, setting a record high, latest statistics show.
During the National Day holiday, at the construction site of the Hongze Jinhu Double Line Super Large Bridge, a key control project of the Nanjing-Huai’an intercity railway, workers were carrying out continuous beam bridge pier foundation construction across the more than 2000-meter- wide Sanhe River. This section of the river belongs to Class III waterway, making the construction of underwater piers complex and difficult.
“We have arranged for nearly 200 workers to operate over 100 equipment on the Sanhe section of the Nanjing Huai'an high-speed railway. The workers are busy with the construction of pile foundations, bearing platforms, and pier shafts. The project is expected to be completed by mid-October,” said Ren Lifeng, Chief Engineer, Second Division of Section 2 of Nanjing-Huai’an Intercity Railway.
Since the beginning of this year, Jiangsu has accelerated railway construction with a view to providing strong support for expanding domestic demand, stabilizing growth, and ensuring people's livelihoods. On September 28th, the Shanghai-Nanjing Yangtze River High-speed Railway was put into operation, which increased the total operating mileage of the province’s high-speed railway to 2536 kilometers, enabling Jiangsu to rank at the forefront of the country.
At present, Jiangsu is constructing six high-speed railways with a total length of 713 kilometers, including the Nanjing Shangyuanmen Yangtze River Railway Bridge, the Shanghai Nanjing section of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu high-speed railway, the Jiangsu section of the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou high-speed railway, and the Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing-Ningbo intercity railway.
“The Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-speed Railway will form a high-speed railway circle covering the entire Yangtze River city clusters with Shanghai-Nanjing Yangtze River High-speed Railway, which is of great significance to the eight cities along the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River in their integration into the development of the Yangtze River Delta and the promotion of Jiangsu’s practice of the Chinese path to modernization to be the national example and demonstration,” said Wang Jun, Chairman of Shanghai-Nanjing Yangtze River High-speed Railway Co., Ltd.
Jiangsu is also revving up the construction of eight port-based railways that include Yangkou-Lvsi Railway, Yancheng-Dafeng Port Railway Branch and Binhai Port Railway Special Line. 4.76 billion yuan has been poured into the construction of the railways, accounting for 92% of the annual investment plan.
“Since the beginning of this year, Jiangsu has invested 44 billion yuan in railway construction from January to August, setting a historical high by completing 80% of the annual tasks. Railway construction has played a good role in promoting the economy and ensuring people's livelihoods, making great contributions to the economic development of Jiangsu,” said Shi Lianghong, Deputy General Manager of Jiangsu Railway Group.
