The first phase of the Xujiang water diversion project in Suzhou, the shield tunnel of Jiangsu's first water diversion project, began shield tunneling on Tuesday.
The first phase of the Xujiang River diversion project in Suzhou includes the diversion tunnel and the Yuecheng River sluice gate project.
Located 1.7 kilometers below the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, the diversion tunnel for this shield tunneling is 2.1 kilometers long, 6.2 meters in diameter.
The minimum clear distance between the arch of the tunnel and the bottom of the river is 8.1 meters. The geological conditions at the bottom of the riverbed are complex and closely related to the hydraulic power of the river, making it easy to cause dangerous situations such as seepage and tunnel collapse during the tunneling.
“Faced with the requirements of long-distance river bottom excavation by shield tunneling, our project technical team has carried out technological innovation, strengthened the ability to prevent gushing and the sealing of the shield tail, and effectively controlled soil settlement”, Wu Shao, Deputy Manager of Suzhou Xujiang Diversion Project Department of China Railway 17th Bureau, said.
