East China’s Jiangsu province has stepped up the construction of major investment projects and ensured their smooth progress through every possible effort so as to fulfill goals for social and economic development. JSBC has the story.

On August 30th, the two steel cofferdams of the No. 3 main pier of the Chongming-Qidong Yangtze River Bridge on the North Yangtze River high-speed railway were lifted, setting a new construction record.

The steel cofferdam weighs 820 tons per section and is lifted in four stages. Upon its completion, it will form a steel giant with a length of 72.7 meters, a width of 47.45 meters, a height of 24.68 meters, and a total weight of approximately 2650 tons, equivalent to a 9-story building occupying 8 basketball courts.

As an enclosure structure for deep water construction, steel cofferdams can prevent water and soil from entering, facilitating drainage and excavation of foundation pits within the cofferdam.

“Our two lifts took a total of 18 hours, and this large-scale lift normally takes 36 hours. We effectively utilized today's two tides to complete these two lifts”, Wang Zheng, Chief Engineer of Chongming-Qidong Bridge Project of China Railway Bridge Bureau, said.

After 30 hours of continuous operation, the constructors completed the concrete pouring of the north cable tower bearing platform of the Zhangjiagang-Jingjiang-Rugao Yangtze River Bridge North Channel Bridge, paving the way for the steel tower construction.

The bearing platform of the North Cable Tower is a dumbbell-shaped structure, consisting of two left and right bearing platforms and a middle-tie beam.

The single cushion cap is 29.8 meters long, 29 meters wide, and 6 meters high. The cushion cap is poured in two stages, with a single pouring height of 3 meters. The second layer of the cushion cap is poured, with a concrete volume of 2798 cubic meters, making it the first cushion cap poured in the construction of the entire bridge.

“This main tower pedestal is an important load-bearing structure of a suspension bridge spanning over one kilometer, which serves as a connecting link between the top and bottom by connecting 46 pile foundations, each measuring 100 meters in length, and lays a solid foundation for supporting the 221-meter-high bridge tower”, Li Liang, Deputy Manager of A6 Project of Zhangjiagang-Jingjiang-Rugao Yangtze River Bridge, said.
