The first national small theater drama "Zijin Cup" outstanding repertoire show will be held in Nanjing from April 2-12, local sources said on Monday.
The show is hosted by the Chinese Dramatists Association, the Publicity Department of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and the Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles. Within 10 days, there will be 23 dramas, operas, and dance dramas participating in the exhibition, with ticket prices ranging from 80 to 120 yuan. Multiple exchange and interaction activities will be held in addition to the performances.
"After the performance of the repertoire, we set up a dialogue to keep the audience in the theater. We hope to create a close drama experience with zero distance through joint discussions among the main creator, audience, experts, and media," said Xue Changxu, Member of the Party Group and Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese Dramatists Association.
Currently, Jiangsu has built 1156 small theaters of various types, with a total seating capacity for about 250 thousand people. Nanjing has launched 107 small theatres of various types. Watching and enjoying music in small theatres has become a new trend in people’s cultural life.
"The small theater has its own exploration, modernity, and marketability. Therefore, we should adhere to improving the production chain of small theater repertoire creation and incubation, regularly organizing public performances of small theater repertoire, cultivating a group of small theater clusters with overall linkage and distinctive characteristics, and cultivating small theatres into important cultural symbols and cultural consumption experience sites in the cities across Jiangsu," said Gao Min, Director of the Literature and Art Department of the Publicity Department of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee.
