A reservoir in Suqian city of Jiangsu province has been converted into become an ecological demonstration area. Let’s take a close look.
The Zhuhai Reservoir in Suqian City, located on the old path of the Yellow River, is undergoing greening and planting. Looking from a distance, newly planted saplings are arranged in rows, with their heads held high.

“Due to biodiversity concerns, 1000 colored tree species are planted within 1600 meters of the lake. Some of these tree species provide abundant food for birds in autumn and winter, which is of great significance for the biodiversity of the ecological environment around our lake.”
A few years ago, the reservoir was the place for more than 200 fish ponds of varying sizes. Long-term feeding of feed to fish has resulted in serious water pollution.
In 2020, Suqian officially launched the reservoir ecological restoration and ecotourism project. The local government has made efforts to create a beautiful demonstration area with a clear background of green ecology through the implementation of projects such as returning ponds to lakes and conserving water sources.
Today, the reservoir has pleasing scenery, winding rivers, and flocks of waterfowl. It has been selected as one of the seven projects for the second batch of integrated protection and restoration projects for mountains, forests, fields, lakes, grass, and sand during the "14th Five Year Plan" period.

In recent years, Suqian has comprehensively promoted the construction of ecological and enriching corridors along the old Yellow River, completed 250 major projects, cleaned 220 kilometers of ecological watercourses in surrounding water systems, and achieved a green space coverage rate of 44%.
Suqian has also introduced 61 major agricultural projects to help farmers increase their income by around 1500 yuan per mu, basically achieving the goal of industrial ecology and ecological industrialization.
