East China’s Jiangsu province will step up its efforts to promote the cleanup of the Taihu Lake by following the Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization and the country’s Overall Plan for Comprehensive Treatment of Water Environment in Taihu Lake Basin, according to a working conference held by the provincial government on Tuesday. Governor Xu Kunlin presided over the meeting and delivered a speech.
Xu Kunlin pointed out that the cleanup of Taihu Lake is of important position and significance in the construction of ecological civilization in the whole province and even the whole country.
He said that the "Overall Plan" is the basic document to guide the cleanup of the Taihu Lake at present and in the future, adding that the issuance of the plan marks the full start of a new round of Taihu Lake cleanup.
The Governor requested that the new development concept be fully, accurately and comprehensively implemented by adhering to ecological priority and green development so as to plan a new round of Taihu Lake cleanup in accordance with the clear thinking, functional orientation, and overall requirements of the national plan for Taihu Lake cleanup.
He demanded that efforts be made to formulate and implement Jiangsu's "1+6" plan for the cleanup of Taihu Lake as soon as possible, promote the continuous improvement of the water environment quality in the Taihu Lake Basin, build a world-class ecological lake area in Taihu Lake, and speed up the transformation of the General Secretary's ardent expectation of "adding more beautiful colors to Taihu Lake" into realistic look.
Xu Kunlin called for further strengthening of cleanup at the source with systematic and collaborative efforts for the safety of drinking water, and ensure that large-scale water pollution does not occur so as to continuously improve the modernization level of ecological environment cleanup, and improve the flood control security and water resources allocation capabilities of the lake basin.
The governor requested that efforts should be made to adhere to the coordinated development of carbon reduction, pollution reduction, green expansion and growth, rationally optimize the industrial layout of the Taihu Lake Basin, accelerate the pace of intelligent transformation and digital transformation of traditional industries, develop green ecological and circular agriculture, advocate a simple, moderate, green and low-carbon lifestyle, and gather strong synergy for the construction of beautiful Jiangsu and the cleanup of the Taihu Lake.
