People in east China’s Jiangsu province are gearing up for the Beijing Winter Olympics that will take place on February 4.

Tao Tong, the representative inheritor of Changzhou intangible cultural heritage charcoal painting, and Guo Changxu, the representative inheritor of Changzhou intangible cultural heritage wheat straw painting, were kept busy teaching children to use two intangible cultural heritage techniques to make handmade Winter Olympics-themed works.

Under their guidance, the children created with great enthusiasm, sometimes embellishing and rendering with charcoal powder and sometimes cutting and pasting with straw, bird nests. The bird's nest, the Olympic athletes and the mascots came to life in the hands of the children.

Tang Yujuan, inheritor of Huai'an intangible cultural heritage tear-off paper painting, gave full play to her expertise by creating in one week a pair of tear-off paper painting work "Dream of Ice and Snow", which vividly showed the figures of "speed skating" athletes.

Tear-off paper painting seems simple, but it actually requires great patience and care, especially for character works and it is particularly difficult to display the charm.

Zhang Rengao and Su Ligong, intangible cultural heritage inheritors of paper cutting in Sihong County, were kept busy teaching the students to create paper carving works for the "Winter Olympics". On the one hand, the activity allows the children to understand the traditional culture of paper cutting, and on the other hand, it will allow the students to understand the knowledge of the Winter Olympics and promote the Olympic spirit.
