Taicang Port reported annual throughput of 7 million TEUs in 2021, according to a ceremony marking the opening of a special rail track in the port area. Xu Kunlin, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Acting Governor, attended the ceremony on Wednesday.
The first freight train pulling out of the Taicang port area to head for Zhengzhou city of Henan province.
In recent years, Taicang Port has sought deep incorporation into the integrated development strategy of the Yangtze River Delta, match the Shanghai International Shipping Center, and deepen the integrated development of ports, industries and cities.
In 2021, Taicang Port reported a year-on-year increase of 34% in its container throughput, ranking first in the ports along the Yangtze River for 12 consecutive years, topping all the ports in the province for 4 consecutive years, and ranking 8th in the country.
The 13.2-kilometer-long Taicang Port Railway Line, totaling 1.887 billion yuan of investment, is one of the 12 key rail and water-transport facilities projects along the Yangtze River funded by the National Development and Reform Commission.
Specializing in the transportation of containers and suitable container goods, the railway will further improve the port’s railway-water-highway transportation and collection and distribution system and provide a solid guarantee for the construction of a modern port with international competitiveness.
Chu Yonghong, Vice Governor of Jiangsu and Chen Jiangang, Secretary-General of the Provincial Government, attended the event.
