The consumer price index, a main gauge of inflation, rose 2.2 percent in October year-on-year, the Provincial Bureau of Statistics said Thursday.
In October, consumer prices in Jiangsu rose by 2.2% year-on-year, an increase of 0.7 percentage points from the previous month.
Food prices fell 0.2%, and non-food prices rose 2.7%. The price of pork fell by 40.7%, driving the CPI down by 0.90%.
The price of fresh vegetables rose by 19.2%, driving the CPI up by 0.41%.
In October, the price of transportation and communication rose among the top, reaching 7.1%.
The increase in vegetable prices directly drove the province’s food prices to stop falling and rebound from the previous month’s decline of 1.2% to an increase of 0.6%.
The price of fresh vegetables rose by 11.8%. In addition to fresh vegetables and fruits, the prices of many important commodities such as freshwater fish, pork, shrimps and crabs, and eggs have generally fallen.
