The provincial government of Jiangsu held a video meeting on the countermeasures against the approaching typhoon In-Fa that hits Jiangsu on Monday and Tuesday. Provincial leaders Fan Jinlong and Pan Xianzhang gave instructions.
Jiangsu is expected to be hit by this year’s sixth typhoon — In-Fa — on Monday and Tuesday, according to the meteorological bureau.
Typhoon In-Fa, which formed on Sunday, has a maximum wind force of between 144 and 172.8 kilometers per hour.
The province is expected to see showers and thunderstorms from Sunday to Tuesday.
According to the latest prediction of National Meteorological Centre from July 24 to 26, heavy rain to rainstorm will grip southern Taiwan Island, northern Fujian, Zhejiang, Shanghai, central-southern Jiangsu, central-southern Anhui, and northeastern Jiangxi. Downpour will hit central-eastern Zhejiang, Shanghai, southern Jiangsu, and southeastern Anhui. Heavy downpour will lash northeastern Zhejiang and Shanghai.
Agriculture, rural areas and water conservancy departments reminded that during the passage of typhoons, all localities should strengthen drainage of the water-logged areas and reinforce vegetable greenhouses, doors and windows and outdoor billboards, and beware of strong winds that endanger personal safety.
Nationwide, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs on Sunday issued a notice to urge local governments to batten down the hatches in preparation of In-fa and ensure the safety of farming and fishing activities in regions that would be affected by the strong gusts and heavy downpours.
China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe weather, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
The mercury will remain between 27 and 33 degrees over the next four days.
Residents are advised to take umbrellas and raincoats when they go out during typhoon season.
