Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu, called for greater efforts to strengthen flood relief ahead of approaching typhoons by following the instructions made by General Secretary Xi Jinping and the policies of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council. He made the remarks when presiding over a video conference on Thursday.
Wu Zhenglong pointed out that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions reflected the party’s sincere feelings for the people, demonstrated the people-centered development thinking and the value concept of putting people and life above everything else, which has pointed out the direction and provided follow-up for us to strengthen the current flood prevention and disaster relief work.
He asked all levels of government and government departments to study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions, adding that leading officials at all levels must always put people and life above everything else so as to stay true to the party’s founding mission and bear in mind the aspirations, interpret the loyalty to the party with practical actions and excellent results from the political height of strengthening the four consciousnesses and the four self-confidences, safeguarding the authority of the CPC Central Committee and getting united around the centralized and unified leadership the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core.
The Governor demanded urgent efforts to strengthen monitoring, forecasting and early warning, ensure round-the-clock duty, and give full play to the key role of water conservancy projects in the critical period of flood control and rescue.
Wu Zhenglong asked regional governments to keep track of the upstream and downstream water level, water quantity and quality change, advance prediction, scientific operation, to ensure the safety of flood control.
He also called for all-out efforts to ensure people's lives and safety as the top priority in the prevention, rescue, and relief work regarding floods.
Jiangsu is getting ready to cope with the precipitation from Typhoon In-Fa that is poised to lash the provinces of Zhejiang and Fujian with more precipitation, according to the National Meteorological Center forecast.
The weather authorities said Typhoon In-Fa, the sixth of this year, is approaching the coastal areas of East China's Zhejiang province and Fujian province, indicating the likelihood of a binary typhoon that is followed by Typhoon Cempaka.
Typhoon In-Fa is expected to make landfall at the coastal regions of Zhejiang and Fujian on Sunday, the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters said Tuesday.
Typhoon Cempaka is expected to make landfall between Taishan and Dianbai in Guangdong province Tuesday afternoon or night.
