East China’s Jiangsu province set a new record in the total output of summer grains in 2021 as China reaped a bumper summer harvest in 2021.
Statistics show that the province’s summer grain area this year stood at 36.924 million mu, a year-on-year increase of 261.3 thousand mu.
The total output of summer grain reached 27.6 billion kilograms, an increase of 138 million kilograms year-on-year. The planting area and output of summer grain accounted for about 9.5% of the national total.
Since last year, the provincial finance department has given 133 million yuan in rewards and subsidies to 26 major grain-growing counties that have achieved remarkable progress in grain production in 2020 and have increased their grain growing areas by more than 1%.
Measures were taken to timely and fully issue various subsidy funds such as farmland protection subsidies, paddy rice subsidies, agricultural machinery purchase subsidies in a bid to fully mobilize local governments and farmers' enthusiasm to focus on grain production, to ensure that the province's summer grain planting area increases steadily, and the benefits of summer grain planting remain stable.
