The provincial leading group for the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta held a meeting Thursday in Nanjing. The meeting was presided over by Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and head of the leading group. Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu and sub-director of the leading group, attended the meeting.
Jiangsu has made significant progress in promoting the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta in industry, innovation, transportation, environmental protection, and public services by implementing the spirit of General Secretary Jinping’s important speech on solidly promoting the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, according to a statement released after the meeting.
Continuous efforts will be made to promote the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta on the basis of the General Secretary’s requirements for the work in Jiangsu and the instructions for the integration of the Yangtze River Delta and provide support for the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta with Jiangsu’s high-quality development, and make the Yangtze River Delta higher-quality integrated development empower Jiangsu's growth momentum, the statement said.
Jiangsu will make greater efforts to focus on key projects and seek breakthroughs to make a good start for the "14th Five-Year Plan" by focusing the "14th Five-Year Plan" of the Yangtze River Delta and the key tasks in 2021, seizing key projects and stepping up the efforts to achieve landmark results with high visibility, said the statement.
The province will go all out to promote the development of the Nanjing-Shanghai industrial innovation belt, highlight Jiangsu's advantages in science and technology innovation, industry, and openness, and make it truly a demonstration belt for the integrated development of science and technology industries in the Yangtze River Delta, according to the statement.
More efforts are needed to further strengthen the construction of major transportation infrastructure, optimize the high-speed rail network, build a strong aviation hub, promote integrated waterway and rail transportation, and boost transport connectivity from the city to the county, the statement said.
Jiangsu will also carry out a new round of comprehensive management of the Taihu Lake Basin, make greater efforts to promote ecological cleaning and solidification of silt pilot projects, promote ecological protection and benefit sharing across regions, and comprehensively improve the level of scientific management of Taihu Lake, said the statement.
Measures will be taken to promote the construction of a joint innovation development zone in the Jiangsu Free Trade Zone, increase pioneering and differentiated reform exploration, promote the extension and replication of the free trade zone policy in the innovation development zone, and seek more active connectivity with Shanghai, Zhejiang and Anhui so as to create more possibilities at the level of regional collaboration, industrial collaboration, and high-level openness, the statement said.
Continuous efforts will be made to improve the integrated well-being of livelihood, continue to strengthen joint prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic, accelerate the construction of the public health system, further explore the integration of transportation, tourism, and cultural experience in the integrated development and improve the coordination system for emergency response to major emergencies, according to the statement.
The participants reviewed the province’s efforts and progress made in the promotion of the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta in 2020 and the key tasks for 2021.
The integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta was elevated to a national strategy, and its further integration is part of the blueprint to improve reform and opening-up, as announced by President Xi Jinping in Shanghai in November 2018.
The announcement signified that development of the region will be fast-tracked. The region lies at the significant convergence of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Yangtze River Economic Belt and contributes more than 20 percent to the country's GDP.
