East China’s Jiangsu province will step up its efforts to promote a new round of railway development, according to a press conference held by the provincial government on Tuesday.

According to the "Opinions of the Jiangsu Provincial Government on Further Accelerating the Development of Railways", Jiangsu will make every effort to ensure that high-speed railways will be accessible at all the prefecture-level cities and 90% of the counties.

One hour and a half will be the standard high-speed railway connectivity time for traveling from the provincial capital city Nanjing to any of the prefecture-level cities.

Two hours and a half will be the maximum time needed to travel from one prefecture-level city to another.

A one-hour commute high-speed train ride will be made available between Nanjing, Zhenjiang and Yangzhou, Suzhou, Wuxi and Changzhou and Shanghai and Suzhou.

By 2035, a multi-layer high-speed railway network will be realized in the province by making high-speed railway connectivity available in 95% of the counties.

According to Ding Junhua, an official with the provincial department of transport, Jiangsu will continue to build 4 high-speed railway projects and kick off the construction of 18 new high-speed rail projects at a total investment of 450 billion yuan during the 14th five-year plan period.
