The construction of Grand Canal Cultural Belt should follow General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speeches and accurately understand the new development stage, acting on the new development philosophy and accelerating the establishment of the new development paradigm. The remark was made by Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu provincial committee, when presiding over a provincial leadership meeting on the promotion of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt construction held Thursday in Nanjing. Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu, presided over the meeting.
The participants watched a documentary on the construction of the Provincial Grand Canal Cultural Belt, heard reports on the construction of the Provincial Grand Canal Cultural Belt and National Cultural Park, and discussed the implementation plan for the protection, inheritance and utilization of the Provincial Grand Canal cultural belt, and the construction and protection plan for the National Cultural Park.
Noting that the construction of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt in Jiangsu has achieved phased results, the participants spoke highly of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s inspection tour in Jiangsu in November last year when he inspected the environmental improvement and cultural protection and inheritance utilization along the Grand Canal.

It is important for us to accurately grasp the spirit of the General Secretary’s important instructions and speed up the construction of the Jiangsu section of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt into a national demonstration and model, the statement said.
To promote the construction of the Jiangsu section of the Grand Canal cultural belt for greater results, it is necessary to highlight high-quality, strengthen characteristics, use cultural heritage as the carrier, and take the cultural value and spiritual connotation of the Grand Canal as the core, integrate the cultural characteristics of the Grand Canal with the local cultural traits, and combine the study and education of CPC’s history to fully excavate and inherit the rich red resources along the canal, and create a Grand Canal cultural belt with unique cultural charm, said the statement.
Efforts should be made to inherit and promote the protection and restoration of famous cities and towns along the route, the construction of ecological civilization along the route, the green and low-carbon transformation and promotion of canal shipping, the integrated development of cultural tourism, the construction of beautiful and livable homes, and the construction of major projects.
