The 5th Zijin Chorus Festival opened at Jiangsu Grand Theater Sunday evening. The event is sponsored by the Chinese Musicians Association, the Publicity Department of Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Office for Ethic and Cultural Progress.
The concert kicked off in "Singing a Folk Song for the Party" amid the pipe organ and the vocal chorus.
11 performance teams inside and outside the province, including the Central Opera House Chorus, sang classic songs such as "Defense of the Yellow River". Finally, the audience sang "There would be no New China without the Communist Party", pushing the entire concert to a climax.
This year’s Zijin Chorus Festival is based on the theme of "Party’s Grand Ceremony and People’s Festival" with focus laid on the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the theme of "Ode to the Party" in a bid to demonstrates the glorious history, great achievements and valuable experience of the Communist Party of China over a century, and eulogize the theme of loving the party, the country and socialism.
The choir festival has 7 sections including an opening concert, a provincial chorus competition aside from a special performance. The series of activities will last until June 12.
