East China’s Jiangsu Province has launched the 2021 Jiangsu Frontier Cutting-edge Technology Basic Research Program, aiming to achieve more original technological breakthroughs, the Provincial Science and Technology Department said on Sunday.
The 2021 Jiangsu Frontier Cutting-edge Technology Basic Research Program is divided into frontier projects and exploratory projects. Frontier projects focus on major scientific frontiers or major industrial forward-looking issues. The funding for each project is about 20 million yuan. In 2021, about 3 projects will be funded.
The "Exploration Project" aims to condense the transformative technical direction and goals, and gradually form the project tasks, makeup of core team and implementation basis of major projects. The funding for each project is about 5 million yuan. In 2021, about 12 projects will be funded.
Top scientists such as academicians and Cheung Kong Scholars will be selected to chair and implement these research projects, and the project leader will be given full scientific research autonomy, who can independently select and hire research teams, determine research topics, and arrange the use of the funds.
The Jiangsu Frontier Cutting-edge Technology Basic Research Program aims to achieve a number of landmark results and form a number of transformative technologies through about 5 years of hard work in a bid to achieve major breakthroughs in forward-looking basic research and leading original achievements.
