The city of Nanjing will focus on promoting tours arising from meeting, incentive, conference and exhibition or MICE for short, according to an international conference hosted Thursday by the Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism at the Conference Center of the Nanjing International Expo.
MICE tourism has become an important approach to speed up the process for Nanjing to evolve into an international tourism hub by fueling the local economic development to the greatest extent, said the experts at the symposium.
The city’s meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions industry has boomed in the past decade with support from the government and constant exploration of new approaches and directions by leading industry players.
Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism signed strategic agreement with the Consortium of Life Sciences Society of China Association for Science and Technology, New Medical Media, China Fruit Circulation Association, and World Internet of Things Conference on the introduction of a series of large-scale meeting, incentive, conference and exhibition events in Nanjing.
According to statistics, in 2019, Nanjing ranked fifth in China in terms of the total exhibition areas, and among the top five in terms of the occupancy rate of star-rated hotels. Through continuous introduction of important exhibitions and innovative cultural and tourism integration products, Nanjing has been awarded the title of China's Top Ten, China's Most Competitive, and China's Most Charming Conference and Exhibition City for five consecutive years.

"Our purpose is to ensure that the visitors to Nanjing will enjoy a good conference and exhibition space, conference and exhibition services, so we have made a lot of cultural tourism activities and arrangements. For example, we have designed archaeological theme tours, literary masterpiece theme tours and night tours," said Xia Jun, Deputy Director of Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism.
The inheritors of intangible cultural heritages such as Yunjin, Velvet Flower, and Bamboo Carving made interactive performances during the meeting. The rich and colorful intangible cultural heritage experience is expected to become a highlight in Nanjing’s promotion of MICE tourism in the future.
