Jiangsu will renovate 100 rural elder-care centers in 2021, according to the Civil Affairs Department of Jiangsu Province.
In an elder-care center in Qidong, Nantong, 91-year-old Grandpa Lu is playing harmonica for others. In the past, the center was just a place where three meals were provided in a day. Nowadays, things have been tremendously changed. The rooms are equipped with air-conditioner, emergency call system and other facilities.
The changes are benefited from the upgrading of rural elder-care centers in Qidong. The city established 8 regional elder-care centers in rural areas in recent years. All eight centers have set up infirmary, accommodating 670 senior citizens and serving other 300 living nearby.
Jiangsu will also upgrade 100 rural elder-care centers this year. At present, Jiangsu has 958 elder-care centers, accommodating 63,700 elderly residents, including 19,300 who live in rural areas.
