As the traditional Lantern Festival approaches, decorative lanterns have been set up across Jiangsu province while online events are being launched. Let’s take a look.

At Guxumen Square, Suzhou City, a group of lanterns depicting “Fish Jumping over Dragon’s Gate” has been installed, showing the delicacy of Suzhou Lanterns. A lantern of ox, the symbol animal of the year according to Chinese lunar calendar, also attracted visitors at the entrance of Panmen Scenic Area.

That’s a good omen for the year of ox

Lanterns of varied colors are being lit in order as the night falls in Qianhua ancient village of Zhenjiang City. At Yangzhou East Railway Station, a popular destination for tourists, the fountain light show is ready for the performance: a matrix of over 100 fountains creates water curtains that beat in accordance with the music. In Suqian City, the traditional lantern exhibition was canceled due to COVID-19, but there still are decorative lanterns set up in parks and by business streets. Furthermore, at the citizen square of the city, 12 light pillars have been installed together with 200 pairs of smaller waterborne lanterns symbolizing good wishes.

To ensure safety during the pandemic, traffic will be strictly controlled during the Lantern Festival in Jiangsu, while providing online booking service for the exhibitions. Virtual Reality technology was adopted for some of the exhibitions, offering 24-hour online access to the marvel of lanterns.
