East China’s Jiangsu province reported US$6.16 billion of direct overseas investment last year, a year-on-year increase of 50.8%, and 51.2 percentage points higher than the national average.
Last year, Jiangsu encouraged local enterprises to seek international presence so as to enhance their international competitiveness through overseas investment, and promote the transformation and upgrading.
Last year, Jiangsu invested US$3.43 billion in secondary industries overseas, accounting for 59.7% of the province’s total overseas investment, an increase of 2.6 percentage points from a year ago.
Jiangsu invested US$2.3 billion in the tertiary industry in its overseas investment, accounting for 40.2% of the province’s total.
The enterprises in Jiangsu diversified overseas investment destinations last year with the agreed investment in countries along the "Belt and Road" reaching US$2.36 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 25.8%.
In the meantime, Jiangsu reported US$620 million agreed investment in the United States last year, an increase of 5% year-on-year. The United States has once again become Jiangsu’s second largest overseas investment destination.
