Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu, demanded more efforts in the acceleration of the province’s transportation infrastructure development in the next three years. He made the remarks when presiding over a meeting Thursday on the province’s transportation work between 2012 and 2023.
Wu was briefed on the latest development in transportation before pointing out that in the past year, faced with severe and complex situations and tasks, unprecedented risks and challenges, Jiangsu adhered to General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions and the decisions and policies of the CPC central committee and the State Council, ensured stability on the six fronts and security in the six areas, stepped up efforts to build a modern comprehensive transportation system, provided strong support and made outstanding contributions for the province to win victories in epidemic prevention and control, resumption of work and production, flood prevention and control, fulfillment of the "13th Five-Year" plan, and acceleration of the construction of a new Jiangsu.
Wu Zhenglong emphasized that transportation is the basic link and important support for a smooth national economic cycle, adding that transportation modernization is an important symbol of the national modernization level.
2021 marks the first year of the start of the "14th Five-Year Plan" and the start of a new journey of comprehensively building a modern socialist country and it is also the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, making it of great significance to promote the development of transportation in this year.
Efforts should be made to study General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on transportation development and important instructions for Jiangsu’s work, stress the need to resolutely implement the guiding principles of the fifth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee and urged the officials to accurately understand the new development stage, act on the new development philosophy and accelerate the establishment of the new development paradigm to drive high-quality development during the 14th Five-Year Plan between 2021 and 2025 so as to create a high-quality life for the people, promote the modernization of transportation demonstration zones, build a transportation network to the satisfaction of the people, and continuously improve the modernization level of the transportation governance system and governance capabilities.
The governor urged more efforts to promote the construction of railways and bridges across the Yangtze River in a coordinated manner, give full play to the advantages of water transportation, promote highway expansion projects, give a strong impetus to coordinated regional development, further improve efficiency for cost reduction, promote green and low-carbon transportation transformation, strengthen organizational leadership, prevent and defuse risks, strictly observe the cultivated land and ecological red line, and make a good start for the comprehensive construction of socialist modernization.
