People in east China’s Jiangsu province have been advised to refrain from discretionary travel and social gathering as sporadic COVID-19 cases have been reported in Beijing, Liaoning and some other places recently.
The Hanshan Temple bell-striking ceremony, an annual event in Suzhou to usher in the new year, will be moved online, according to a notice issued by the Suzhou municipal government on Sunday. Tourists who have already purchased tickets for this event can apply for a full refund from the ticketing platform and enjoy the priority to purchase next year.
Hanshan Temple and Fengqiao Scenic Area will be open normally on the first day of the new year.
Suzhou will also cancel its annual new year run for safety concerns.
Nanjing will cancel the bell-striking event and other activities at Jinming Temple and Linggu Temple.
The laba porridge-giving event, which falls on January 20, will also be halted.
No New Year's Eve activities will be held in Nanjing Qixia Mountain Scenic Area and Nanjing Qixia Ancient Temple.
