In the first three quarters, the province's GDP grew by 2.5% year-on-year, 1.8 percentage points higher than the national growth rate with many major economic indicators leading the country.
In recent years, Jiangsu has adhered to the development of the real economy, promoted supply-side structural reforms, and fueled high-quality economic development. In the past five years, Jiangsu has accelerated the construction of an independent and controllable modern industrial system, focused on cultivating 13 advanced manufacturing clusters, and accelerated the industrial structure from the low-end to the mid-to-high end.
In order to speed up the construction of a regional innovation system and focus on breaking through a number of bottleneck technologies, the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government has issued a series of new policies and good policies such as "40 Technological Innovations" to stimulate innovation vitality.
By the end of 2019, the added value of the province’s high-tech manufacturing industry accounted for 21.8% of the regulated industry, an increase of 2.7 percentage points from 2015.
More than 20% of the country's high-tech products are "Made in Jiangsu." The province's GDP has continuously reached the 8 trillion and 9 trillion yuan mark and is expected to exceed 10 trillion this year.

While advancing high-quality economic development, Jiangsu has firmly grasped the requirements of building a moderately prosperous society at a high level during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, adhering to problem orientation, making up for shortcomings, strengthening weaknesses, and effectively transformed General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instructions into specific measures and development results.
For more than five years, Jiangsu has insisted on prioritizing people’s need and improving the lives of 80 million Jiangsu people through better education, more satisfactory income, more reliable social security, higher level of medical and health services, and more comfortable living conditions.
In 2019, the province’s per capita annual income exceeded 40,000 yuan, 1.5 times that of 2014, basically eliminating absolute poverty. 90% of basic public services have been standardized, and 1.45 million urban residents are employed, accounting for one-tenth of the country. The province has also continued to expand high-quality supply of educational resources and improved medical and health care significantly.
As of 2019, the ratio of days with good air quality in the province has increased to more than 70%, and the annual average concentration of PM2.5 has dropped to 43 micrograms/m3.
The water quality of 77.9% of the river sections listed in the national assessment reached the third grade while the province ranked first in the country in the number of national ecological cities and counties and national ecological civilization construction demonstration cities and counties.
As of the end of 2019, Jiangsu had the largest number of civilized cities in the country. It reported 97% coverage rate of public cultural facilities and 90% of comprehensive reading rate among the residents.
