A symposium on strengthening ecological protection along the Yangtze River was held in Nanjing on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference sponsored the event and the Population, Resources and Environment sub-committee of CPPCC National Committee seconded the sponsorship.
The symposium was attended by the CPPCC provincial committees of the 11 provinces in the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the CPPCC provincial committee of Qinghai Province.
He Wei, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
Lou Qinjian, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, met with some of the guests.
Huang Lixin, chairwoman of the Provincial CPPCC, delivered a speech.

Lou Qinjian said that in recent years, Jiangsu has resolutely implemented General Secretary Jinping’s important speeches and instructions, practiced the new development concept, and prioritized the protection of the Yangtze River and the ecological restoration of the Yangtze River, the intensive use of the Yangtze River coastline, the transformation and upgrading of industries along the Yangtze River, and give full play to the supervisory role of the news media to promote the high-quality development of the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
Lou Qinjian said that we must adhere to the guidance of the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, implement the policies and decisions of the central government, learn from the experiences and practices of other provinces, strengthen strategic coordination with relevant ministries and commissions under the state council and provinces along the Yangtze River, work together to protect the Yangtze River, and jointly build the Yangtze River Economic Belt into a demonstration zone that prioritizes ecological conservation and green development.
He Wei spoke highly of the work and achievements in promoting the protection and green development of the Yangtze River in Jiangsu and the other provinces along the Yangtze River.
He pointed out that the Xi Jinping Thought on ecological civilization is an important part of the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as it is a powerful ideological weapon for us to protect the ecological environment, promote green development, and build a beautiful China.
He called for further efforts to enhance political stance, give full play to the role of the People’s Political Consultative Conference as a special consultation body and promote the ecological environment protection of the Yangtze River and the green development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
Huang Lixin pointed out that this symposium is a pragmatic measure to earnestly implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi JInping's important speech on promoting the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and practice the ecological protection of the Yangtze River.
She remarked that the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government has made resolute efforts to implement the Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, and regard the promotion of high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt as an important political task, as is evidenced by the continuously improving water quality of the Yangtze River and the environment along the river.
The chairwoman said Jiangsu will resolutely protect the ecology of the Yangtze River, strengthen ecological protection and restoration along the river, enhance innovation and development, accelerate the pace of industrial layout optimization, economic transformation and upgrading, and promote the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
Nie Weiguo said that we must follow the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping and the policies and decisions of the Party Central Committee in our thinking and actions, and improve the normal and long-term mechanism for the provincial committee of the CPPCC to contribute to the protection of the Yangtze River so as to promote the ecological environment protection of the Yangtze River and make positive contributions to promoting the ecological environment protection of the Yangtze River and the green development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
Fan Jinlong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Executive Vice Governor of Jiangsu, briefed the symposium on the efforts and progress Jiangsu has made in the protection of the ecological environment along the Yangtze River.
During the meeting, the participants inspected the comprehensive renovation of the ecological environment along the Nanjing section of the Yangtze River.
