The Provincial People’s Congress, the province’s top legislature, has launched an inspection tour on soil pollution prevention and control in Taizhou city. The inspection team is headed by Li Xiaomin, Executive Deputy Director and Deputy Secretary of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress.
The law enforcement inspection team inspected the safe use of contaminated farmland in Taixing City, Hailing District, and Jingjiang City, the land and space ecological restoration project along the Yangtze River, and the contaminated soil sampling site.
It also randomly checked the information signs and pollution prevention and control measures of chemical contaminated plots.
A symposium was held to hear briefings by Taizhou Municipal People’s Congress, the government and relevant departments while a questionnaire was distributed on the Soil Pollution Prevention and Control Law.
Li Xiaomin pointed out that it is necessary to thoroughly study and understand the Xi Jinping Thought on ecological civilization, implement the decisions of the 8th Plenary Session of the 13th Provincial Party Committee on the in-depth promotion of the construction of a beautiful Jiangsu, give full play to ecological environmental protection, and strive to create a Jiangsu model of beautiful China.
He noted that land is the growth matrix of agricultural products, the carrier of human environment, the largest support body for sustainable development, and the final storage body for most pollutants, making it important to fully understand the significance of soil pollution prevention and control.
Stressed should be put on prevention and while protection should be prioritized, he said, adding that more efforts are needed to strengthen soil pollution control and restoration, promote the coordinated and joint efforts in soil pollution prevention and air, water, and solid waste prevention and control, prevent soil pollution from harming the safety of agricultural products and the health of human settlements, and give priority to ecology and green development in the promotion of high-quality development.
He also called for further efforts to discover problems, make supervisions on the solution of the problems, ensure the full and effective implementation of the Soil Pollution Prevention and Control Law, and promote the continuous improvement of the quality of the ecological environment.
