Province’s CPI up 2.5 percent in July

The province’s consumer price index, the main gauge of inflation, was up 2.7% in July, the provincial survey team of the national bureau of statistics said on Monday. 

In June, the CPI in Jiangsu rose by 2.7% year-on-year, up 0.2 percentage points from the previous month, the first time increase after and falling for five consecutive months.

The price of food, tobacco and alcohol, which carries the largest weight, rose by 12.4%, while the price of non-food, tobacco and alcohol fell by 1.2%.

Pork and freshwater fish rose to 84.6% and 23.1%, while prices of fresh melons, fruits and eggs fell by 24.7% and 18.7% year-on-year.

The expenditure on transportation and communications fell 5.1% month on month. 

China's consumer price index, a main gauge of inflation, grew 2.7 percent year-on-year in July, up from 2.5 percent from the previous month, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Monday. 

Food prices rose as the floods in some provinces disrupted the transport of pork and as bad weather affected the supply of vegetables, the NBS said.
