The city of Nanjing started shield-tunneling on its sixth metro line on Sunday, indicating a big stride in the construction of the new metro line.
At 9:28 in the morning, with the progressive faster turning of the cutter head of the "Xianfeng" shield machine, construction workers started to shield-tunnel the 1.656-kilometer section at the north end of the city’s Metro Line 6 from Wanshoucun Station to Yanyao Road.
The sixth metro line in Nanjing traverses 32.365 kilometers from Nanjing South Railway Station in the south to Qixia Mountain in the north. 19 stations will be built along the route. Interchangeable with 13 metro lines, the sixth metro line will connect the airport metro line to become the fastest route from downtown Nanjing to the airport.
