Electricity load in east China’s Jiangsu province hit a record high on Monday at 100 million kilowatt hours, indicating a gradual surge in social and economic development amid the post-pandemic recovery.

Under the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the worst ever flood in 70 years, Jiangsu succumbed to a record low electricity load in the first quarter of this year.

The gradual recovery in social and economic development fueled the electricity load to 54.02 billion kWh in June, up 7.33% from a year ago.

11 major industrial sectors reported positive growth in electricity use in June.

Since July, the Jiangsu power grid has witnessed rising load due to the steady and rapid development of the industrial sector as well as the surging load caused by the continuous high temperatures, making Jiangsu the first provincial region to record more than 100 million kWh for four consecutive years.

In order to ensure the safe operation of all power grid equipment in the summer, State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power completed the inspection of 71 substations of 500 kV and above, eliminating many hidden equipment safety hazards.
