East China’s Jiangsu province has doled out subsistence allowance for the needy people according to an upgraded level in a bid to soften the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on livelihood

The increase raised the subsistence allowance to 610 yuan per month on the average, totaling 7320 yuan per year.

The figure is a gain of 1320 yuan from the provincial benchmark of 6000 yuan.

Jiangsu has also leveled the basic living allowance for the needy people according to prefectural standards. In accordance with the requirements of urban and rural coordination and the equalization of basic public services, Jiangsu has realized the integration of urban and rural subsistence standards in prefecture-level cities to highlight equity.

In the meantime, Jiangsu has achieved progress in regional coordinated growth with Nantong, Yangzhou and Taizhou raising the monthly basic allowance to 710 yuan per month.

The basic monthly living allowance in the five prefectural cities in north Jiangsu varies from 610 yuan to 710 yuan.

The province’s average basic living allowance constituted 22% and 35% of the residents’ per capita disposable income and per capita spending last year.

Since the onset of COVID-19 pandemic, Jiangsu has taken targeted measures to ensure stability on the six fronts and security in the six areas in a bid to accomplish the targets and tasks of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and win the battle against poverty.

The six fronts refer to employment, the financial sector, foreign trade, foreign investment, domestic investment, and expectations. The six areas refer to job security, basic living needs, operations of market entities, food and energy security, stable industrial and supply chains, and the normal functioning of primary-level governments.
