Sustained progress has been made in pollution control in East China’s Jiangsu province in the first half of this year, according to a provincial conference held Tuesday in Nanjing.
In the first half of this year, Jiangsu reported overall improvement in ecological environment quality.
The province witnessed a year-on-year increase of 12.7% in the number of days with good air quality in the six-month period, the highest since 2013.
84.6% of the river segments and 97.8% of the tributaries leading into the Yangtze River reported Grade III water quality under the national assessment scheme, up 13.4% year on year and a record high since the start of the 13th five-year plan in 2016.
In the second half of the year, Jiangsu will give full play to air pollution control, water environment quality improvement, soil remediation, Taihu Lake system control, elimination of environmental safety hazards and rectification of outstanding problems to its campaign to rein in pollution.
Law enforcement campaigns will be carried out in the June-September period and October-December period to target pollution caused by volatile and organic compounds and smoke and dust pollution respectively.
