The annual edition of the Jiangsu Book Fair came to a close Monday in Suzhou.

Readers made appointments to enter the exhibition hall at different hours during the exhibition as their enthusiasm for reading and buying books was not deterred by the epidemic.

During this year's book fair, more than 130 key reading promotion activities were held, such as various special lectures, book signing, new book launches, reading and sharing of works, and meetings between readers and celebrities.

After ten years of development, Jiangsu Book Fair has gradually grown into a reading carnival that integrates outstanding publication exhibition and sales, reading promotion, industry exchanges, information release, and new product display.

This year, the book fair set up an online sub-venue for the first time to display and sell nearly 200 thousand books, and simultaneously released offline reading event videos, attracting over 10 million visitors every day.

An exhibition hall of regional chronicles was set up for the first time in the history of the book fair, exhibiting more than 1,300 volumes of various chronicles and yearbooks at all levels, and at the same time lively displaying the regional chronicles culture such as engraving printing and sugar painting clay figurines.

Jiang Longbo from Jiangsu Provincial Office of Regional Chronicles said that regional chronicles can let people in Jiangsu trace their roots and veins, in particular childhood memories which can further stimulate their passion for their hometown.

A survey on the reading habits in 2019 showed that the residents in Jiangsu read 13.06 books on average while the comprehensive reading rate increased from 82.2% in 2013 to 90.16% in 2019.
