East China’s Jiangsu province has made continuous efforts to battle floods as the north of the province reported rising water level due to the impact of the floods from the upper reaches of the Huaihe River.

The Jiangba monitoring station recorded a water level of 13.38 meters at three Monday afternoon, 88 centimeters above the warning mark.

Major sluices in the locality have been running in full gear to discharge the floods into the Yangtze River, posing threat to the irrigation canals and pumping stations and pushing the water level in Jinhu County 7 centimeters above the warning line.

The flood discharge in the Hongze Lake caused the water in Shaobo Lake and Gaoyou Lake to swell continuously, prompting the 111 spillways of the three local sluices to be activated for flood release.

In the meantime, the Taihu Lake and the Yangtze River continued to report high water level against the receding floods.

The Taipu Sluice and other major sluices in the Taihu Lake basin are working in full gear to discharge floods at a flow of 1400 cubic meters per second.

The Shilianghe Reservoir, the largest of its kind in the province, reported a flood discharge flow declining from 3000 cubic meters per second on June 23 to 300 cubic meters per second on Monday.
