East China’s Jiangsu province has made headway in the construction of water conservancy projects since the start of this year by beating the adversities from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The extension and dredging project of the Xinmeng River, one of China's 172 water-saving and water supply projects, is intended to improve the water environment of the Taihu Lake and the areas to the west of the lake and raise the flood control and drainage standards in the Taihu Lake basin.

The constructors have stepped up the work on the Benniu Water Cnservancy Project with the overpass ground culvert, ship lock and control gate completed before June.

Excavators and mud ships were seen working in full gear at the Daxi River treatment project in Baoying County.

The major water conservancy project in the Huaihe River valley is reporting smooth progress since the resumption of work in February and is scheduled for completion in mid-July.

In the first half of this year, Jiangsu recorded the use of 6.45 billion yuan in water conservancy projects, accounting for 51% of the planned investment for this year.
