Suzhou Dongshan Town held a news briefing yesterday morning to announce that this year’s Dongshan white loquats would come into the market very soon.
The white loquat is a rare fruit unique to southern China. Located in Wuzhong District,Dongshan Town is one of the four major traditional loquat plantations in China and is famous for the white loquats grown here.
Baiyu (white jade) loquat, one of the eight local loquat varieties, isboth juicy and sweet. At the end of 2019, “Dongshan White Loquat” passed the evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and was permitted to be registered and protected as the nation’s Agro-product Geographical Indications.
2020 is an abundant year for Dongshan loquats, and the estimated output is about 7,000 tons. The picking of Baiyu loquats will start tomorrow, and they will be on sale in large amounts from around May 13 to the end of May. Guanyu loquats, in its turn, will be available from late May to around June 10.
Compared to recent years, the 2020 Dongshan loquats are the best in quality. The price is expected to drop a little bit from last year: RMB 50 to 70 yuan/kg.
